Garland Farwell, last year’s Featured Artist, hailed from York, Alabama. This year’s honoree has a tie to “York” as well. It’s her last name.

As we kick off winter announcements about the 2022 Spring Festival, it is our distinct pleasure to unveil Birmingham, Alabama’s Chloe York as the Featured Artist of the 39th Magic City Art Connection (MCAC, #magiccityart2022) taking place April 22-24, 2022 at Sloss Furnaces.

Against the rustic backdrop of this national historic landmark in Birmingham, Alabama, Chloe’s paintings pop! Her pieces are an artful portal into the depths of our planet’s oceans, and have been influenced by the time she’s spent living waterside. The work comes to life on the wall transporting the viewer to a bio-diverse environment or composition of her creation.

Chloe was named MCAC’s Best in Show juried winner last year. This top honor was awarded by the festival’s 2021 juror, Daniel White, a former festival artist and exhibitor, and currently the Director of the Paul R. Jones Museum and The University of Alabama Gallery. It is a great addition to the accolades Chloe has already garnered for her work from various scholarships, grants, and exhibitions.

This spring, MCAC looks forward to spotlighting Chloe’s sea-inspired, organically detailed, color-saturated, jewel-like paintings to the thousands of visitors, collectors, and enthusiasts coming out for an art-filled weekend in the heart of Birmingham.

Read more about Chloe’s artistic path, influences, and career on her MCAC Featured Artist page.

Next up, we’ll be unveiling the art piece that was selected for the 2022 poster, plus the design created by Scott Miller of Miller Communications, Inc..

About MCAC’s Featured Artist Program

This festival initiative serves to support and present artists of great artistic talent and integrity to MCAC collectors and patrons. The work of the featured artist is spotlighted on the Festival Poster, T-Shirt, and the larger marketing campaign reaching thousands across Greater Birmingham and the region. Over MCAC’s 38 year history, this distinction has been centered on a gifted group of exhibiting artists and award winners, MCAC Emerging Artist honorees, and artists garnering regional, national, and international attention who have been invited to Birmingham as festival jurors.
