Taylor Adams

I create to translate my experiences in nature, using my media to tell stories of interaction. With loose graphite sketches, ink washes, and strands of thread, I construct abstractions reminiscent of landscapes. My interest in the materiality of thread roots back to my mother teaching me to sew at a young age. Today I use this delicate yet strong material to compose a balance of controlled and organic movement. Painting and drawing simultaneously, I work in fluid gestures to create a dialogue amongst layered marks. Slipping thread between my fingers, each strand is meticulously placed, establishing linework informed by the drawing and painting beneath. My paintings map movement and explore a finely tuned balance. Acting as conversations, they tell the story of a feeling, a moment and a place.
