Artist Bio
I began my career in 2009 after 25 years as a stairbuilder, tradesman. After a layoff in 2008, and with no art education to speak of, but a great deal of support from my wife JoAnn, I embarked on a life’s dream to paint scenes of old Connecticut barns. I have been strongly influenced by a Connecticut Artist named Gary Barsumian who saw and felt the same as I about America’s most iconic structure. My affinity for these old grey ancients stems from both my woodworking appreciation and my respect for the grace filled farming way of life, all of which is disappearing all too quickly. Also inspiring to me, for both style and subject matter, is Andrew Wyeth whose paintings capture the brightness of a small moment in time which I find powerful. Aside from the joy of travelling the more remote byways of my state, meeting extraordinary farmers with a rich oral history they are quietly proud to share, I also collect old barn wood which I use to make one-of-a-kind frames for my paintings. The barns live on!I have been fortunate to exhibit in top nationally ranked shows, from Michigan to Florida to Maine. But what I most appreciate and treasure are the folks I meet and the stories I hear when they view my work.
