Artist Statement
My current body of work is concerned with inner and outer worlds, micro and macro. Layers of color and pattern collide, fragment, fall away and reform mimicking starbursts, supernovas and celestial events. The smaller pieces on paper are evocative of cyclical journeys inward, spiritual connection as well as patterns found in nature…tree rings, agates and geodes.
I use Marbling and Suminagashi as the basis of my work. Using acrylic paint, I paint on the surface of a bath to make my agates, tree rings, supernovas etc. Larger artwork is made from a myriad of papers. Occasionally, work may include watercolor, gouache or additional acrylic painting.
