Artist Statement
Watching tears fall from an awkward teenager’s face when she looks upon her portrait for the first time drive my passion to show the world in a beautiful light. The digital camera opened a new world for me, but I didn’t want my pictures to look like snapshots. I wanted to capture a moment or create an illusion. Formal photography classes began my journey. I received my Certificate of Photography from Samford University, Academy of the Arts in 2015.
With my camera, I have the opportunity to see what I didn’t solely with my eyes. I learned to appreciate the majesty of people, animals and the environment while growing up on a farm. I have lived in Birmingham since 1985, yet I’ve found a way to stay connected to nature through the camera lens.
