2022 MCAC Poster Design
It’s time for Magic City Art Connection’s next 39th annual reveal – THE POSTER!
This week, we announced the Festival’s 2022 Featured Artist, Birmingham’s Chloe York. Over MCAC’s 38 year history, this distinction has been centered on a gifted group of exhibiting artists and award winners, MCAC Emerging Artist honorees, plus artists garnering regional, national, and international attention who have been invited to Birmingham as festival jurors. Chloe was awarded the Best in Show top juried prize at the Festival last year, which made her a prime candidate to showcase on the poster in 2022.
Choosing among her body of work for a great poster image was certainly a fun exercise. We were especially drawn to Chloe’s Decorator Series, which “explores identity, outward appearances, and the manner in which we decorate ourselves.” Her subjects are “encrusted with oceanic forms, a nod to the decorator crab, which covers its body with whatever it finds within its environment to camouflage and protect itself.” These large scale abstracted portraits have such presence at their 48″x 60″ size, and despite their camouflaged subjects, they grab your attention and draw you deeper into their colorful, patterned, sea-inspired world.
Introducing “Washy Decorator 2”! Poster design by Scott Miller of Miller Communications, Inc. and owner of Birmingham’s newest art gallery on Morris Avenue, Scott Miller Projects.
We’ll be back with more big February announcements about MCAC’s 39th year April 22-24 at Sloss Furnaces Historic National Landmark.
